My Approach
Listen to the plants. Understand the environment. Grow with nature.
At Sweetpea Growing Grounded, I believe good plant care starts with paying attention.
Plants are constantly communicating with us. A drooping leaf, a change in color, dry soil, new growth, or an insect visiting a flower can all tell us something about what is happening.
My approach is to slow down, observe, and understand before deciding what a plant needs.
Every Plant Has a Story
No two plants—and no two gardens—are exactly alike.
Instead of following a one-size-fits-all routine, I take a personal look at your plants and their surroundings.
I consider things like:
- Light and exposure
- Soil and moisture
- Temperature and seasonal changes
- Plant health
- New and established growth
- The plants growing around it
- Insects and other visitors
- The overall environment
By looking at the whole picture, I can provide care and guidance that is specific to your plants and your space.
Observe Before We Act
One of the most important parts of plant care is learning to recognize the signs a plant gives us.
A plant may be telling us that it needs more water—or that it has been getting too much. It may be reacting to its environment, struggling with a pest, or simply going through a natural part of its life cycle.
I don’t want to simply treat the symptom.
I want to understand why it is happening.
This allows us to make more thoughtful decisions about how to care for the plant moving forward.
Working With Nature
I believe a healthy garden can be a living community rather than simply a collection of plants.
I love seeing insects visit flowers, watching plants interact with their surroundings, and knowing that a garden can provide food and shelter for other forms of life.
That’s why I value native plants and natural gardening practices.
I do not use pesticides as part of my standard plant-care approach. Instead, I focus on understanding the environment, encouraging healthy plants, and supporting the beneficial life that belongs in the garden.
Healthy Soil, Healthy Plants
Plants don’t exist separately from the soil beneath them.
When I care for a plant, I pay attention to what is happening around its roots as well as what is happening above the soil.
Understanding moisture, soil conditions, drainage, light, and the surrounding plants can make a big difference in a plant’s ability to thrive.
Healthy plant care begins with understanding the environment that supports the plant.
Making Room for Life
A garden doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful.
Sometimes a little insect damage is part of a healthy ecosystem. Sometimes a plant reaching the end of its natural life is simply part of the process.
I don’t measure a garden only by how flawless it looks.
I look at whether it is alive, growing, supporting other life, and working with its environment.
My goal is to help create spaces where plants, insects, wildlife, and people can coexist.
Care That Grows With You
I know that plant care can feel overwhelming, especially when you aren’t sure what your plants are trying to tell you.
My goal isn’t just to care for your plants for you.
I also want to help you understand them.
Whether I’m helping with a single houseplant, caring for an established garden, choosing plants for a new space, or providing ongoing maintenance, I want you to leave with a better understanding of your plants and what they need.
There is always more to learn, and I’m committed to continuing to learn alongside the plants I care for.
Growing Grounded
To me, being grounded means being connected to the soil, plants, the creatures around us, and to ourselves.
That’s the kind of connection I hope to encourage through Sweetpea Growing Grounded.
I don’t just want to keep plants alive.
I want to understand them, nurture them, and give them the opportunity to thrive.
